Prepare to Overland

Date: 4/20/2017

Overlanding is a mix of camping, exploring and off-roading for an extended time in remote locations. It’s been gaining momentum over the past year in America and is incredibly fun. Plus, it’s a terrific way to get the whole family involved in some off-roading activities.

Your off-road vehicle will need to handle loads of equipment and be reliable for more than just rock crawling. Off-road tires and high-quality shocks are just a couple things that will keep your vehicle reliable deep in the wilderness.

Overlanding has been said to be the backpacking of car camping. Thankfully, you can dive deeper, carry more and see more areas. You’ll get to develop your navigation skills on each adventure. Researching before making your trip is ultimately the best idea. You want to know where you’re going and what you want to do, whether it’s relaxing or finding some great hikes near where you make camp.

Here are some key items and supplies that will help in overlanding:

  • Off-road trail guide books
  • Topo maps
  • GPS
  • Cell phone
  • Notes from other overlanders
  • A tent
  • Water
  • First Aid Kit
  • Perishable and non-perishable food
  • Repair parts and tools

Plan a few small adventures before tackling any long adventures to unknown areas. Remember to explore, that’s the whole point of the trip! Get out of your vehicle and feel alive, this isn’t your daily commute.

These are a few great resources to get you started on your overlanding adventures:
